Lego X Gundam Sustainable Packaging
Purpose:
This project was to create sustainable packaging for an existing brand. I chose to turn the old Lego plastic bags into function sustainable containers to hold all the pieces necessary for the build. The point of the design was to be functional but at the same time fit the aesthetic of the theme, which I chose to be Gundam.
Role:
Designer, Art Director, 3D Modeler
The Design
The Lego X Gundam design was designed to capture the the futuristic/technical world of Gundam. The idea was to highlight the technical aspects of the build and showcase that with the blueprints of what it takes to build a Gundam. Each face of the packaging shows a number which relates to the step at which the consumer is at within the build. It also shows the icons of the part of that is being built, and on the side it will show the various piece icons with how many pieces will be in that container.
The container is made out of bamboo pulp which is recyclable, moldable, and can be dyed into various colors. A black base is perfect to highlight the white wireframe icons and to keep a theme of futuristic. Nothing is worse than dropping pieces so the shape the bamboo pulp is molded into, fits all the piece and is the perfect container for the consumer to hold all their piece during their builds.
A design around never dropping any pieces during your entire build.

Social Media
Advertising the new packaging was the goal. Mixing in Gundam as the future and bringing Lego into their new sustainable packaging. Creating these technical and futuristic posts, Lego is able to engage customers in a unique, themed way. We want our customers to understand the new packaging and know their actions of supporting a sustainable future, and these visuals are meant to bring that awareness to life and represent the future. The posts are written in English, Japanese, and French.
A video was also created to show case the new packaging. It is themed around Gundam where the main character pilots the Gundam for first time and fights for a better future. The video then switches to the HUD view and is shown the new packaging and the benefits it creates. We wanted to pay respects to the original Gundam so Japanese audio is used with English subtitles, as well as the original music from Mobile Suit Gundam.
